Hrm shouldn't great katana have a curve to it? I'm not sure if you can actually call a straight edge blade a katana... But then again my knowledge on japanese swords is average at best, so I guess someone else can say for sure

Many great katana in this game are straight anyway. Yes katanas can have a straight edge.

Weel unless you mean strictly speaking in the context of the game then I'll take your word for it cause I've not leveled sam past 10. Seeing as his is made for the game then yeah okay, my lil comment is moot. Speaking in real life terms tho, all katanas have a curved edge whether slightly or otherwise. The very process used to make a katana is what makes it curve. If it doesn't curve, then as far as I know it's not a real katana. I assumed it would be represented that way in the game too but I guess not.

Aside from all of that, I do think it looks very nice and cool and I like the design of it. I think the op did a good job.

I believe the straight edged katanas are called shinobigatanas or ninjatos. Not exactly I katana, but very similar.

Well not to turn this into a katana debate, but maybe you have a chokuto style blade? The kind of swords that came before what's traditionally called katana. Katanas are curved because of how they are forged. All the bending and folding of the metal and the composition of the metal forces it to curve. So if you have a straight blade it's because the katana was not bended and folded in the traditional manner. Hence why I can't say it's a true katana in my opinion. Is it a japanese sword? It's possible and probable. Of what type I can't say but it's definitely not katana.

Some reproductions of katana are just that, reproductions, and aren't created the way they're supposed to be. the blade is from the kazaridachi, a samurai great katana. and its straight because its meant to slide into a straight sheathe to conceal itself as a cane.

i used the wooden katana as the base, so it sounds like a stick when you hit something. if i can ever get vrs to work again i will fix it.

Technically, I have 7 Katanas.

In actuality, I have.. (all fake crappy cheap reproduction stuff, of course) 2 Swords, 1 Chinese Broadsword, 2 Daito (one straight, the other curved.) and 1 Bastard sword.

This is quite true. Samurai Katana where forged by master swordsmiths, oftentimes taking weeks to complete. Where the straight-blade Katana comes from is the Ninja weapons, because as they were outlaws and outcasts, they could not afford to or even have access to swordsmiths that were capable of making Samurai-class weapons. They had to make do with cheap, mass-produced items, and used them for other purposes as well as killing (for example, as a stand so they could get over a high wall). This also meant that if a Ninja was forced to kill a Samurai, they stole their far-superior Daito.
